ABOD GAMING'S Biggest Takeaways: The Game Awards & PlayStation Experience

This past weekend was a pretty busy weekend in the word of gaming; for the third straight year Geoff Keighley brought us 'The Game Awards', and regardless your feelings over such an awards show being necessary, it did come packed with announcements and trailers.  This weekend also marked the fourth annual PlayStation Experience, where Sony reveals and advertises some of its biggest upcoming and existing titles. Here are ABOD's biggest takeaways from this past weekend!

New God of War will be MUCH longer.

Unfortunately we didn't get any new footage this weekend, but we did learn that the new God of War (early 2018) will allegedly be anywhere between 35-40 hours according to creative director Cory Barlog.  This is on par with the current trend of games being longer even when they're not sprawling open world adventures or massive RPGs.  Previous God of War games were more in the range of 8-10 hours, which then begs the question, is this too long for a God of War game?  Sound off in the comments!

The Return of Soulcalibur

This was my favorite surprise of the week; for those who don't remember when the last entry in this franchise was, think back to 2012.  We didn't get much aside from the trailer, but at least we know that Soulcalibur will be back in our lives some time next year on Xbox, PS4, and PC.

MediEvil is getting the 'REMASTERED' treatment.

This can either be a successful surprise by Sony or a disappointing one depending who you ask; while I do remember playing this way back when, and even remember enjoying it...wasn't there something else that could have been remastered instead?

Death Stranding has a new trailer!

Both Kojima and Death Stranding continue to beg the question, "WTF did I just watch?', and its brilliant. What begins as you run of the mill sci-fi game trailer, turns into the truly bizarre and leaves us mesmerized.  The idea of Hideo Kojima working with the talents of Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guillermo del Toro is definitely an exciting one, even if we still haven't seen any actual gameplay and no release date has been announced.

Mega Man makes an appearance.

As expected, Mega Man will make an appearance in Monster Hunter: World.  No this isn't some type of lame dad joke, this is the real deal.  Unfortunately he will not be playable and instead comes as an option to use when choosing your palico buddy!  He'll be able to drink some energy drinks, eat sausage and allow you to listen to some Mega Man tunes while hunting some of the games enormous beast.  Again, I'm not joking.

Last, but certainly not least...

Shawn Layden said during an interview that he has high hopes that the ability to finally change your PSN name from the likes of "BongHitter420" and "BigPimpster69", should be coming our way by PSX 2018.  While he didn't go into any kind of specifics as to what is taking so long to bring this highly requested feature to the fans, he did say it's "more complex than you think."  Guess we'll have to take his word for it.
